Seminar on anti-money laundering and compliance organized by Belgrade Chamber of Commerce
Organized by Belgrade Chamber of Commerce, and supported by the Administration for the Prevention of Money Laundering, on 18 November 2010 a seminar was held on anti-money laundering and compliance, but from a perspective of the world famous consultancy company WORLD CHECK.
The Seminar met with exceptional interest of representatives of commercial banks and the National Bank of Serbia. Radojko Srbljanović, Head of Suspicious Transactions Department in the Administration, gave introductory address, reflecting somewhat on the matter of corruption, and was followed by Vasco Nesti, World Check consultant, a lawyer and a banker with years of experience in Switzerland, who presented certain technical properties of the World Check databases, as well as criteria for searching them.
This company has had successful cooperation with banks in Serbia for some time. Mr. Nesti’s presentation was followed by Lino Merchella of Dedagroup, Italy-based IT company, which provides technical support to World Check, but also offers diverse products and services for financial institutions, public administration, etc. However, the participants showed greatest interest in the presentation of Kenneth Rijock, Miami-based financial crime consultant, former career money launderer, who after serving a prison term became a world famous educator in anti-money laundering matters, invited to participate at technical workshops around the globe.
Telling a story of his life, where legal activities of a lawyer mingle with bulk cash smuggling of drug money into islands in the Caribbean, Kenneth Rijock pointed out possible abuses, illustrating them with interesting examples in international trade, hedge funds and life settlement schemes. These three were seen as emerging threats for money laundering nowadays. Rijock’s story was awarded with a ripple of applause for its authenticity and sincerity, and therefore the Administration expressed its gratitude, extending the invitation to the World-Check and Kenneth Rijock’s tour to visit Belgrade again next year for another seminar for the obligors.
